The treatment in detail
Waxing pulls the hair out at the root. Regrowth comes back in three to four weeks depending on the area and the person, finer than after shaving because the hair starts again from the bulb rather than from a cut shaft.
The face is treated area by area: upper lip, chin, sideburns, or the whole face. Brows are done with tweezers, which are more precise than wax on a line that has to be drawn.
The body runs from a simple bikini to a Brazilian or full bikini, from half legs to full legs, underarms, arms, back, buttocks. The men's list covers the same areas with its own timings: shoulders, chest, stomach, full back, chest and back together.
Hair of five millimetres is long enough to be gripped. Below that the wax slides and the session ends in patchy regrowth: better to postpone by a week than to come back twice.
You can expect…
Clear skin, sometimes red for an hour or two on thin-skinned areas such as the face or bikini line.
Regrowth shows after three weeks. A steady rhythm thins the hair session after session.
Frequently asked questions
How long does the hair need to be?
Five millimetres, about a fortnight after shaving. Below that the wax has nothing to grip and regrowth turns patchy.
Does it hurt?
The first sessions pull, especially underarms and bikini line. The feeling fades as the hair thins from one session to the next.
Can I come during my period?
Yes, for every area. The bikini line is simply more sensitive on those days.
Contraindications
- Isotretinoin (Roaccutane) in progress or stopped less than six months ago
- Peel or laser on the area within the last fortnight
- Sunburn, wound, eczema or psoriasis flare on the area
- Visible varicose veins on the area
- Hair shorter than five millimetres
