The treatment in detail
The act is simple and shows immediately: the therapist holds the skin taut and passes a sterile blade flat across it, in small movements. It removes the facial vellus hair and the surface layer of dead cells at the same time.
What that changes: the complexion brightens because the down no longer catches the light, texture refines, make-up sits flat. Treatments applied afterwards penetrate better, one layer having been removed.
The down grows back exactly as it was. It does not come back thicker or darker: the blade cuts at the surface, it does not touch the follicle. That belief is persistent and it is wrong.
The protocol does not suit skin with active acne, nor very reactive skin: the blade would pass over lesions. It does pair well with a gentle peel or a hydrating facial applied straight after.
You can expect…
Skin smooth to the touch, a brighter complexion, a face without down.
The result lasts three to four weeks, the time the down needs to grow back and the dead cell layer to reform.
Frequently asked questions
Does the down grow back thicker?
No. The blade cuts the hair at the surface, it does not touch the follicle. The down grows back exactly as it was.
Does it hurt?
No. You feel the blade pass, like a shave, with no pain and no bleeding on healthy skin.
How often?
Every four weeks, the time the down needs to grow back. More often would add nothing.
Can it be paired with another treatment?
Yes, and it is even advisable: a gentle peel or a hydrating facial applied straight after penetrates better.
